I like going to the cinema as much as the next person, but what I don't like is paying good cash to see a film that is not even worth wasting 2 hours of my life on, let alone pay for.
This happened to me last night, Wolf Creek was the film, billed as a nerve jangling gut wrencher of a horror movie with some nightmarish scenes of human cruelty...er, so where the fuck were they?
Now I went with a ladyfreind of mine, we ended up in the bar after a nando's and lost track of time, so when we got to the booth that was the only film that had not started, so fuck it....we'll see that, it's not ideal but it's supposed to be good.....
....Now I'll try not to give too much away in-case you DO want to see this film. It's a story of 2 English backpackers (girls) who go on a road trip into the outback with Ben, a guy from Sydney. Their destination is Wolf Creek, which is a huge crater thats been there for however long. Anyway, they get there, then the car stops and their watches stop etc etc and then bad things start to happen...Sounds like it could be OK right?
Wrong, this film bored me into submission and had most people in the cinema squirming around looking at their watches so they could get out of there, it took so long for anything to actually happen that when it did I had lost interest, it meandered along building no suspense or or atmosphere and then you get 10 minutes of what you were expecting from the start and then it's over!
The general idea of the film is good and it was based on true events so it should have been harrowing and horrifying, but the end result was that the real empathy that the audience is supposed to feel with the characters was lost because of the pace and content of the first hour of the film.
If you HAVE to see this, get it on DVD.
4/10
Has anyone else seen this and liked it? Or seen any other good films recently?
